Terry Towels review

I don't know about other babies, but both M and A often spit up a decent amount of milk after feeding. With M, we used the cute little square washcloths for burping, but found that they were a bit small. There were also a bit on the pricey side, costing between $2-4 per cloth (that's pricey to me). And, if you buy the fancy personalized, monogrammed, silk-lined fancy-pants kind of burp cloth, it might run more than $20 per cloth (but your baby would be very trendy). And when you go through multiple cloths per day, you end up spending a ton just to have enough cloths to make it to laundry day. With A, we decided to try these terry towel shop cloths that are sold at Costco. There are nice and big, 100% cotton, and while they are less soft and plushy than the made-especially-for-baby kind we get at Carter's, we use them for burping and catching spit-up milk (we continue to use the plushy cloths for bathing and face wiping). They get softer with every wash too, and are comparable to a basic quality bath towel (they remind me of some hotel towels). In any case, they come 48 to each package, and we go through as many as 20 per day (yes, it often seems like we do laundry every day). Some of them eventually got chewed up and frayed after several washes, so we use those as cleaning rags now. And the price is right at $12.99 per package (that's about 27 cents per towel). And once we're beyond the spit-up stage, we can toss them all into the general household cleaning supply pile. I know some of you might be thinking "You're using shop towels on your baby? That's crazy!" but it works for us (and technically we are using it on baby spit-up). The "I'm the worst mom in the world for not buying that $20 burpie" feeling lasted about 30 seconds. Those extra dollars we saved can go to their college funds.
