Having
children in medical school
Medical
school is a busy time, and is even busier with a family and
kids to care for. Some days, it was hard enough just taking
care of myself that I could not imagine taking care of a
family and kids too. Of course, all that has changed now
and while I still have those days where I feel like I can
barely take care of myself, there is no option to collapse
onto the sofa and sleep for 12 hours in order to recover.
Little people depend on me. My husband always says it's
like being on call, Q1, 24/7. I think having children in
medical school puts things into perspective, and also
forces you to become really efficient. If you entered
medical school with kids, you might have an advantage in
terms of being organized and able to multitask, but of
course it will still be difficult because you'll have less
time to spend on school.
